Chemical Substances

The ECCO Group aims at minimizing the content of harmful chemical substances in ECCO products. The requirements for such substances are based on relevant legislation in the markets where ECCO products are sold as well as on the internationally recognised SG list for leather products. SG is an abbreviation of the German term Schadstoffgeprüft (tested for harmful substances). The SG-list is published by the German testing institute TÜV Produkt und Umwelt GmbH, Rheinland in collaboration with Institut Fresius GmbH and Prüf- und Forschungsinstitut Pirmasens. The ECCO requirements define threshold values for harmful chemical substances in leather products, textiles, and plastic and synthetic leather products and are related to shoes as well as bags and other accessories.  All materials and components must comply with these requirements. This is managed in cooperation with ECCO’s suppliers and followed up by a comprehensive test program on both materials and complete products. The individual tests are carried out by internationally recognized laboratories.
