ECCO opened the Copenhagen Fashion Week with an exclusive fashion show and Walk IN Style award ceremony at Copenhagen City Hall on 5 February 2008.  The Walk IN Style Award, which has been founded by ECCO, was presented in cooperation with the fashion magazine IN. Three independent Danish women with personal styles and a heart for charity were nominated. These were namely, designer Karen Vedel-Simonsen, actress Sofie Lassen-Kahlke and singer Pernille Rosendahl.

At the end of a very successful evening, Karen Vedel-Simonsen was announced as the winner of the 2008 Walk IN Style. The judging committee included the chief editor of IN Camilla Lindemann, stylist Søren Hedegaard, sociologist and lifestyle expert Emilia van Hauen as well as ECCO’s chief designer Ejnar Truelsen.

Along with the title as the 2008 Walk IN Style winner, Karen received DKK 250,000 from ECCO to use for charitable purposes. Karen announced that she will be donating the money to SOS Børnebyerne, a children’s organisation that has initiated a project in Ghana to help young girls gain a brighter future.

The new award praises independent women with inner confidence, who lead balanced lives respecting everything life has to offer, and the courage to break new ground and to create her own individual style. With their commitment to life and charity the three nominated women represent the very essence of Walk IN Style.

Karen Vedel-Simonsen

Karen Vedel-Simonsen WSA Nominee

Karen Vedel-Simonsen is one half of the designer duo Munthe plus Simonsen. She likes to be productive and to be challenged every day. She is curious, willing to learn og loves people out of the ordinary and crazy ideas. Via her position as a well-known designer, she e.g. helps other women in the battle against breast cancer. Karen Vedel-Simonsen feels it is important to teach her children to care for others. She feels a need to make life nice for her surroundings and she always tries to have a positive approach to life. If she wins, Karen Wedel-Simonsen wants to support a charity helping children and Afrika.

Pernille Rosendahl

Pernille Rosendahl WSA Nominee

For many years, Pernille Rosendahl fought for her career and success in the Danish music industry. She was so focused that she started her own record company, when her upcoming band, Swan Lee, had trouble getting a contract with one of the established labels. Until two years ago her musical career was the life-force of singer Pernille Rosendahl from the Danish band Swan Lee. Still, she is not afraid to admit that the sudden arrival of her son, Tristan, in the musician’s family Rosendahl/Wohlert, has turned things upside down. If Pernille Rosendahl wins the award, she would like to donate the money to mothers in need.

Sofie Lassen-Kahlke

Sofie Lassen-Kahlke WSA Nominee

Sofie Lassen-Kahlke is well-known for her role as Anja in Regner Grasten’s family film Anja & Viktor. She became an actress by coincidence, when she was 13, she is fashion-conscious, but has her own independent and personal style, and she is not afraid to use her position for the benefit of others less fortunate. For the last nine years Sofie Lassen-Kahlke has worked as ambassador for Børnehjælpsdagen helping mainly children, who are put outside of their own home because of neglect. In that capacity she helped other Danish celebrities deliver chrstmas presents to children in orphanages in December, If Sofie Lassen-Kahlke wins, she wishes to donate the money to Børnehjælpsdagen to help offer a better life to children in need.
