ECCO Walkathon took in Aarhus
On 13 June 2009, 1,450 cheerful Aarhusians used their feet to raise DKK 90,000 for three charity organisations – Street Kids International, WWF Worldwide Fund for Nature and the Danish Heart Association's Children’s Fund.
The Aarhusians were in competition against both Aalborg and Odense who were also holding ECCO Walkathons on 13 June. The three cities collected a total of DKK 360,000 for the three organisations.
Mek Pek entertained the children and adults with his Oh, Monkey Show and by acting as compère on stage. The pretty town hall square in the centre of Aarhus formed the backdrop for the event which also provided entertainment in the shape of Peter + Kopi, who played a selection of Gasolin hits.
We would like to thank Aarhus Municipality, the City of Aarhus Association and Sydbank for the great cooperation. A huge thank you also goes to the Aarhus Post Office Marching Association, who helped to plan and organise the ECCO Walkathon, and to all the other helpful volunteers from, for instance, The Green Butchers FC (De Grønne Slagtere IF), Sydbank, the Danish Heart Association’s Children’s Fund and the many private volunteers who also registered via our website.
You all helped make the day go with a swing.
Thanks also to all the participants – we hope to see you all again next year!
