September 13, 2008 - Warsaw, Podzamcze

Yet another record at the ECCO Walkathon in Warsaw
On Saturday, September 13, we staged the fourth ECCO Walkathon in the heart of Warsaw. Over 18,000 participants showed up in Podzamcze Park near the scenic old town in order to walk for charity – in spite of temperatures close to 10 degrees Celsius. The walking routes showed Warsaw from its most beautiful side, leading participants trough the old town and several great parks.

With a mileage-based amount of 637,440 zlotys, participants in the Polish capital once again made a record donation for those in need. What was particular interesting about this year's event was the fact that more participants decided to cover a longer distance. For the first time ever, the 10 km route had more walkers than the 6 km route. Last but not least, the children of Warsaw contributed with the highest kids' donation ever made – 70,000 zlotys were raised via the kids' treasure hunt.

Event results:

Participants: 18,000
Distance covered: 162,620 km
ECCO’s donation to charity: EUR 191.318

Charity projects:

Street Kids International receives EUR 56.013 [read about this project]
WWF Poland receives EUR 81.200 [read about this project]
TVN Foundation receives EUR 59.902 [read about this project]

Start/finish & routes

    Start & Finish at Podzamcze

This year the Start and Finish of the Walkathon event in Warsaw will be at the beautiful area of Podzamcze which is a placed on the bottom of Old and New Town with a great view of the Wisła river and the right riverside of Warsaw.
Despite the closeness of the highway, numerous garden paths are frequently chosen as favorite everyday walking paths in the old part of Warsaw. The 13th of September Podzamcze will be the gathering place for the event. There you will find the registration tents, our main stage featuring all-day entertainment, a special children's activity area, exhibitions about the charity projects, the tents of our sponsors and charity organizations as well as booths selling food and drinks. A map will follow as soon as we are finished with the planning.
