Walkathon premiere in Cologne

"Donate money with your feet" – this was the motto followed by the participants of the first ECCO Walkathon in Cologne. 400 people made a commitment and gathered at Cologne's MediaPark this Saturday, greeted by sunshine and temperatures around 21ºC. The objective was to generate as many kilometres – and euros – for ECCO's two African charity projects in the Congo Basin and in Kenya. At 11:00 a.m., stage host Jo Hiller from WDR television sent the crowd on their 8 km walk through the city, covering among other things the Rhine river promenade and the cozy old town.

Our thanks goes to all participants for their exemplary commitment to charity which will undoubtedly motivate many more citizens to join the Cologne Walkathon in the future. We'd also like to thank our fantastic crew and volunteers from Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin as well as our dedicated stage artists that gave the day such a fantastic atmosphere.

Event results:
Participants: 381
Distance covered: 3,180 km
ECCO’s donation to charity: EUR 3,500

Charity projects:
Street Kids International receives EUR 1,922 [read about this project]
WWF Germany receives EUR 1,578 [read about this project]
