Colin Montgomerie Wins European Open

Montgomerie edged Sweden’s Niclas Fasth – who also competed in ECCO golf shoes – by a single shot thanks to a sterling final-round 65 to cap a four-day total of 11-under 269. The victory was Monty’s first in 19 months and moved the 44-year-old Scottish legend into first place all-time on the European Tour win list with 31 career titles.

"After nearly two years of a dry spell it's great to be back, you wonder if it's ever going to happen again," Montgomerie said. "I'm now one win above Nick Faldo, someone I have admired for many, many years."

The win earned Montgomerie €593,580 and moved him into sixth place on the European Tour Order of Merit.

"It’s tremendous that Colin now stands alone as Europe’s all-time victories leader," says Jesper Thuen, Sponsor and Event Manager, ECCO Golf. "This performance, especially coming just after his third place at the Open de France last week, really shows his game to be in top form."

Also competing at The K Club, fellow ECCO staff player Thongchai Jaidee closed with a 68 to finish tied-for-25th.
