Colin Montgomerie Captures 2007 Omega Mission Hills World Cup Trophy

This past weekend, Colin Montgomerie paired with fellow Scotsman Marc Warren to capture the 2007 Omega Mission Hills World Cup in Shenzhen, China via a thrilling playoff against the United States.
Competing in the distinctive World Class collection, Montgomerie claimed Scotland’s first World Cup alongside Warren after the latter tapped in for par on the third playoff hole against the American squad of Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum.
Playing in front of a supportive crowd at the massive Mission Hills Resort, Montgomerie and Warren atoned for a playoff loss in the 2006 event – Scotland’s sixth runner-up finish in the event’s 54-year history – by carding a four-round total of 25-under par.
“It was a fantastic experience,” said the 44-year-old Montgomerie. “It has been a long time for Scotland to win the World Cup. There were a lot of good teams here this week and it is delightful that we can come through and win and we are very proud.”
The win earned Monty and Warren £390,624 each and strengthened the case of each player for inclusion on the 2008 European Ryder Cup squad.
“Colin played extremely well this week and continues to strengthen his position among the greatest players of all time,” says Jesper Thuen, Sponsor and Event Manager, ECCO Golf.
