ECCO Golf Shoes Signs Chinese Star Wu Ashun

Top Young Player Qualifies to Compete in 2013 Open Championship at Muirfield

Wu AshunECCO has signed Chinese golf star Wu Ashun, who will compete in the brand’s Tour Hybrid model throughout the 2013 season.

Ashun, who recently became only the second Chinese player to qualify for the Open Championship, will also showcase the ECCO logo on his shirt collar and participate in the brand’s marketing initiatives.

“Wu Ashun is already a renowned player in Asia and has the potential to become a recognized name globally with continued strong performances,” says Jesper Thuen, ECCO Global Sponsorship and PR Manager – Golf. “He’ll be at the core of our marketing and PR work in China, which is an exceptionally strong and growing market for the ECCO Golf business.”

Competing on the European, Asian, Japan Golf and OneAsia Tours in 2012, the 28-year-old is considered by many to be China’s top golfer under age 30. The first Chinese player to win on the JGT, he is currently No. 179 on the Official World Golf Ranking. In addition to his victory last year, Ashun recorded top-25 finishes at nine other tournaments, including the European Tour BMW Masters.

ECCO Staff Player Graeme McDowell Wins World Challenge

Bests Star-Studded Field to Claim Title for Second Time in Three Years

ECCO confirms that Staff Player Graeme McDowell wore its luxurious World Class GTX golf shoes while capturing the World Challenge, contested this past weekend at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.

Showcasing the ECCO logo on his headwear, G-Mac posted four sub-70 rounds to finish 17 under par, win his first title of the season and claim his second World Challenge trophy in three years.

“This one feels very sweet,” said McDowell. “It will give me something to think about in the offseason, some confidence to draw on and something to take into 2013.”

Currently ranked among the world’s top-25 players, the 33-year-old has represented Europe as a member of the past three Ryder Cup teams. He’s now won nine times since 2002, highlighted by the 2010 U.S. Open where he became the first European champion in 40 years.
