Journalists, professional athletes, industry insiders and brand ambassadors share running experiences on a new ECCO online community.
ECCO launched “The Better Running Initiative” in March, which is an ongoing global program on the web through which runners participate in experiments, provide feedback and share ideas.
“We have already more than 100 active members. These include journalists, professional athletes, industry insiders and brand ambassadors, as well as other men and women who share a passion for running,” says Alexander Nicolai, Head of ECCO Sport, from the SS14 product conference in Tønder. “We are already receiving tremendously valuable information about different running styles and performance levels”.
Each of the participants has received a complimentary pair of the new BIOM Evo Racer’s and is participating in experiments suggested by ECCO. Testing covers a wide range of key areas, such as how comfort, fit and flexibility impact performance.
The observations will be incorporated into upcoming collections, with the goal of developing a user-generated model for Spring/Summer 2015.
Initially invite-only, the Better Running Lab will be expanded in coming months, with applications accepted via the “Sign Up” button.

Triumphant start to the season for ECCO ambassador and Danish Ironman triathlete, Michelle Vesterby, as she takes third place on the podium at the Abu Dhabi Triathlon.
Under the warm Arabian sun on Saturday 2 March, more than 2,000 athletes took part in the demanding course, all competing for a place on the podium in the sport’s richest prize event.
With the world’s best competing, it was never going to be easy, but it was clear the Danish athlete was looking forward to getting back into racing after the long winter break.
“It was an extremely tough event and I am so proud of my result; 2013 has started out in the best possible way. I finished strongly with my fastest ever run time, for which I have to thank my BIOM EVO RACERs,” Michelle Vesterby says.
“We congratulate Michelle on an excellent start to the new season and we are really excited about what 2013 has in store for her. We feel sure that Michelle has a bright future in triathlon and ECCO looks forward to supporting her along her journey,” says Matthias Schwarte, Marketing Manager, ECCO Sport.

Michelle became a brand ambassador in 2011, attempting to follow in the footsteps of Rasmus Henning, ECCO’s former brand ambassador. Last year she won the Lanzarote Ironman and came in second at Ironman 70.3 Haugesund.
ECCO started sponsoring Michelle when she was semi-pro as her will to, not only compete but to win, showed real potential. She went fully professional in 2012. Michelle has a big future ahead of her and is a great ambassador for ECCO both during and away from competitions.
Michelle was racing in the BIOM EVO RACER, a shoe she premiered at Ironman Kona in October 2012. Streamlined to a featherweight 180 grams (women’s textile size 37), with a second skin fit for greater comfort and breathability, the ECCO BIOM EVO RACER is ECCO’s most advanced NATURAL MOTION shoe available and is a leap forward in their innovative BIOM NATURAL MOTION Technology.
