Hadassah de Boer wins ECCO Walk in Style Award 2012
Dutch Hadassah de Boer was honoured by ECCO at Copenhagen City Hall. The Dutch journalist received 33.500 EURO for Stichting Vluchteling providing refugees in Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe with humanitarian aid and social support. This happened under the watchful eye of HRH Crown Princess Mary, 300 Danish and international media representatives and a large number of celebrities.
The fifth woman has won ECCO’s Walk In Style Award: Hadassah de Boer. The Award pays tribute to women who inspire other women through their courage and love for life.
For the last few years Hadassah de Boer has worked as an ambassador for Stichting Vluchteling (Refugee Foundation), working closely with the global network called International Rescue Committee.
Hadssah will hand over her award to Stichting Vluchteling which provides refugees in Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe with humanitarian aid and social support. Besides emergency aid caused by wars and violence, Stichting Vluchteling helps refugees to return home and create a more sustainable and independent future for themselves through education, medical care and economical support like micro credits. Their main focus is on women and young kids, since these groups are not only the most vulnerable ones, but also represent the largest number of refugees worldwide.
A unanimous committee of judges, consisting of six Elle editors-in-chief representing the nominee’s countries, ECCO’s Head Designer, Ejnar Truelsen and ECCO’s Facebook fans, selected Hadassah de Boer as the winner on the following grounds:
The recipient of ECCO’s Walk in Style Award for 2012 is a woman who truly has a burning desire to make a difference. She has been extremely courageous travelling to dangerous places around the world to support women and children who suffer.
Hadassah de Boer is a successful journalist focusing on cultural topics. Greatly inspired by her mother – a former politician – and her education in cultural studies at the University of Amsterdam, she has always worked professionally to shed light through TV stations, printed media and even radio on issues facing women and kids who are either disadvantaged or in refugee camps.

The audience at the City Hall witnessed three new shoe trends on the catwalk each represented by a number of specially made showpieces: “Aesthetic Being”, “Active Vibrations” and “Nordic Breathing”. Three talented and visionary Danish designers, each with their own personal take on the assigned theme, contributed to the show styling. They were fashion designer David Andersen, costume designer Lars Emil and leather designer Hanne Harnov Riisbro, Zolo Design.
