Danish brand ECCO – maker of the world’s most comfortable and technically-advanced footwear – announces that it has been named Official Footwear Supplier to the 2011 European Solheim Cup Team.
As part of this agreement, ECCO golf shoes will be provided to all team members, Captain Alison Nicholas, her assistant captains and Solheim Cup staff. The company’s shoes will also be sold in the merchandise tent at the competition, taking place September 23-25 at Killeen Castle, County Meath, Ireland.
“This year’s Solheim Cup promises to be one of the best in recent memory, as both squads are stocked with tremendously talented players,” says Jesper Thuen, ECCO Global Marketing Manager – Golf. “Fans of the game worldwide will be watching all week, and ECCO will have a significant presence throughout each match”.

Wins for Second Consecutive Week, Third Time in 2011
ECCO confirms that Staff Player Thomas Bjorn wore its World Class GTX golf shoes while capturing the PGA European Tour’s Omega European Masters, contested this past weekend at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Crans Montana, Switzerland.
Bjorn, who displayed the ECCO logo on his shirt collar, earned the victory with an amazing final-round that included nine birdies and an eagle. The win – his third on the European Tour this season and the 13th of his career – comes on the heels of his victory at last week’s Johnnie Walker Championship.
“Golf feels pretty easy at the moment but that’s not always the case,” said Bjorn. “Any time you go out and shoot 62 on Sunday you have got to be delighted.”
This latest performance moved Bjorn to seventh on the Race to Dubai rankings and 59th on the Official World Golf Ranking.
“Thomas is certainly one of the sport’s hottest players right now,” says Jesper Thuen, ECCO Global Marketing Manager – Golf. “It was a thrill to watch him dominate some of the world’s best players this week, especially so soon after his grueling playoff win at Gleneagles.”
Perhaps the greatest Danish golfer of all time, the 40-year-old’s illustrious career has also included serving as a key member of two European Ryder Cup teams and Assistant Captain of the victorious side during last year's competition at Celtic Manor in Wales. He has finished runner-up at three major championships.
