Thomas Bjorn Named Chairman of The European Tour’s Tournament Committee: Danish Legend Takes on Key Role for Professional Golf in Europe

The appointment, which was confirmed at a meeting of the Tournament Committee at St. Andrews prior to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, comes following the resignation of Jamie Spence, who held the position for three years.

Bjorn, 36, is among the most accomplished players of his generation. A professional since 1993, the Danish star captured the Challenge Tour Order of Merit crown in 1995 before going on to register nine The European Tour victories. He also played a key role on the winning Ryder Cup teams in 1997 and 2002.

"It was the unanimous feeling of the Committee that Thomas is the right man to carry on the sterling work of Jamie Spence," said George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour. "He is a strong leader with a forceful personality who can liaise closely with the Membership and our Administration in helping to shape the future of the Tour."

"I am honoured that my fellow professionals on the Tournament Committee have placed their faith in me to succeed Jamie," added Bjorn. "He was a popular and extremely hard-working Chairman and I will do my utmost to continue the good work which he started."
