Charity projects
In a good cause
At ECCO we believe in the future, in progress, and in the challenges that lie ahead. As part of our ECCO Walk for Life programme we support projects in the following areas:
The education of young people
Protecting nature
A wholesome life style
We have chosen projects that make a huge difference and have a big impact. That's why we only want to donate money to long-term projects.
In 2009, ECCO will support the organizations:
WWF – Protects the ice bears in Arctic
Street Kids International – Educates street children in Poland and Kenya so that they can support themselves
Local project in Denmark
The Danish Heart Foundation's Children's Fund (Hjertebarnsfonden) – Aids and supports children with heart disease and their families

Street Kids International
Creating a future outside of Nairobi’s slums
In Kenya, Street Kids International is helping youth from the slums of Nairobi develop their business and savings skills through its Street Business and Street Banking programs.
To date, more than 500 youth have been trained in financial literacy, and more than 100 have started their own businesses to support themselves.
Special education for youngsters in Poland
In Poland, Street Kids International is striving to help marginalized youth by collaborating with youth serving organizations to address their needs. This involves the delivery of a business education program adapted particularly for youth in Poland.
The training develops skills and attitudes needed for employability and entrepreneurship. Youth will also benefit from follow-up training in life skills education, which focuses on developing positive self esteem and goal setting toward a productive future.
WWF
The Arctic challenge: protecting the polar bear from climate change
Scientists have recently proved that the sea ice in the Arctic will almost completely disappear between the years 2014 to 2030 due to Global Warming. This means that the polar bear loses its habitats. Unless the climate changes are forestalled, it is estimated that two thirds of the world’s polar bears will become extinct within the next fifty years.
On an international level, WWF will attempt to protect a vital area in northwestern Greenland and northeastern Canada. This area will be among the last where polar bears can migrate when the sea ice has gone. WWF works for a commitment by the countries whose boundaries are in proximity to this area, to preserve the polar bears last habitat, including a ban of mining, extraction of natural resources, human habitation, hunting and other forms of exploitation.
If you walk for the WWF at the ECCO Walkathon, you support WWF’s international climate initiatives and help protect the polar bear’s Arctic habitats.
Hjertebarnsfonden (Denmark)
Help heart kids to a better life
Inger is a happy, little 5-year-old girl. She's like any other child, only her heart is different. Inger was born with a heart defect, and as a baby, she had trouble breathing and fought for her life for 6 months before she got the better of a bad case of whooping cough and received a successful heart operation.
If you support the Heart Children's Fund of the Danish Heart Foundation, your donation will go towards a heart camp for heart children and their families where they will receive all the support and care to gather strength and courage in order to overcome everyday challenges.
